I recently spent a lovely summer evening at Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor with Theresa and Jeremy for their engagement session. When Theresa described her engagement session vision as having flowers and fields, we knew this would be the perfect location to capture their love!
When I first met Theresa and Jeremy I instantly knew we were a match made in heaven. Just like my husband and I, they went to high school together – I have a particular soft spot for high school sweethearts!
We started off in the Conservatory’s beautiful Tropical House and soon discovered that we have even more in common when my “What do I do with my hands?!” quote sparked a conversation about their first kiss. I absolutely love how goofy these two are when you start to peel back their layers!
We headed out to the amazing Gardens and attracted quite the following crowd. I’m convinced they all wanted to ask Theresa where she found the gorgeous dress she was wearing! One of the things I love about photo sessions at Matthaei Botanical Gardens is that you feel like you can travel the whole world in just one evening. We started in the tropics and then found ourselves under a beautiful arch of greenery that feels like it’s straight from an Old World Garden. This was the perfect place for me to step back and let Theresa and Jeremy have some romantic quiet time together. You can tell these two are just meant for each other by the way they make each other smile (and kudos to Jeremy for being a PRO nuzzler)!
From the Tropics, to an Old World Garden, to the Desert…We decided to dance our way to the Conservatory’s Arid House to heat things up a bit!
Theresa’s ring is so beautiful, and Jeremy was so excited to give it to her after picking it up, that he couldn’t wait until Sunday (as he originally planned) to propose to her! He took his chances (and some scolding from an unknowing Theresa) double parking in a reserved space so that he could propose to her in the very spot that they met on a bus at their High School. Theresa and Jeremy had a champagne celebration with friends and family afterward – take note gentlemen, a sweet and thoughtful proposal plan like that will definitely get you a yes!
We spent the rest of our evening together adventuring around the trails and “just around the river bend.” I couldn’t help but start singing a bit after Jeremy threw out a Pocahontas quote!
Theresa and I discovered that we have a shared appreciation for big trees – so we finished up their session with this beauty! Trees have such beautiful symbolism for life and family – it was the perfect background for the story of Theresa and Jeremy’s families coming together and their journey toward starting their new life in marriage.
And just when I thought I couldn’t love these two more – they brought up another movie reference that made my history nerd heart sing! When you have the opportunity to end the night with a Galdiator scene…you do it!
Theresa and Jeremy, I am so honored that you have chosen me as your Forever Photographer. I can’t wait to capture your big day! I just know that your ceremony at Divine Child and reception at TPC are going to be beautiful and so much fun! Two months and counting!!!
