SO, WHAT IS LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY ANYWAY?
The goal of lifestyle photography is to capture a subject in a non-intrusive, natural and real-life way. It takes a newborn and their family exactly as they are – without expectations. My son was born before I started my photography business and we went to a studio for his newborn photos. I was very nervous to leave home with him because I wasn’t allowed to drive yet and he was so small due to being 3 weeks early…not to mention my husband was not a fan of the typical studio newborn shots of naked babies in unnatural positions. That experience completely shaped my approach to newborn photography. I knew from the get go that I only wanted to offer lifestyle newborn photography because it allows me to capture you and your baby in the comfort of your own home. I have you snuggle up and hold your newborn as you naturally would. I have you cuddle up alongside your significant other and document the way you two look at the little human you so beautifully created. Lifestyle photography is a chance for you to embrace how much love you have for your newborn and to capture sweet, candid moments with them.
DO YOU OFFER POSED SHOTS OF MY NEWBORN AT ALL?
Because I know that it is important to many parents to have images of just their newborn, I do offer individual portraits as part of the session. My style is more natural, capturing the beauty of your baby exactly as they are. This means I put them in natural poses and positions – I don’t force them into poses that are unnatural to them.
DO YOU HAVE PROPS FOR THE INDIVIDUAL PORTRAITS?
I do not supply props, but I am more than happy to incorporate any special items or outfits that you have in your home. I believe capturing your newborn with items that have meaning to you will result in images that will be cherished far more than anything I could provide. For example, I love to wrap up your little one in their blanket, safely rest them in a heirloom basket or cradle, or snuggle them up to a favorite stuffed animal. We will talk about any special items or outfits you have in mind during your session consultation.
DO YOU PROVIDE OTHER LOCATION OPTIONS BESIDES MY HOME?
If you are asking this question because you don’t feel as though your home is picture-worthy, please stop there. Your home is beautiful and homey in its own unique way! I promise you that even if you don’t feel like your home is picture-worthy, I will be able to find beautiful locations in your home that make for amazing pictures! I also don’t want you to worry about cleaning your whole house for your session – I will typically only shoot in your living room, master bedroom, and nursery.
